Werner Wetzel Oboe - Pricing

Hi!

Im needing to price an old Werner Wetzel Oboe made in Berlín.

I couldnt find anything on ebay or other internet sources... :( Thats why Im asking here!

Can you help me with this?

Thanks!!! :)

Couldn't find any pricing info but this page sez, "STUDENT OBOES - If you must buy an oboe with less than FULLEST Conservatory system, some recommendations for "modified Conservatory"oboes: include the Werner Wetzel which is reputed to be excellent".

FWIW, I also did some Googling and I couldn't find any pricing information for WW oboes. Found a few flutes for sale, which were in the $1000+ US range. Found a few clarinets, which were around the $700+ US range. All used, of course. The flutes, especially, seem highly regarded.

According to this, WW died in 1995 and stopped producing oboes around 1979. Well, provided Google translate and Pete transliterate are working properly. Helen, could you please take a peek to make sure I'm right?

I see you've posted in a few places and in at least two languages regarding this horn. I would encourage you to post at the http://www.museum-markneukirchen.de/forum, which is the forum I linked to, above. I would think that you'd get a bit more information from folks in Germany. You might also want to call or shoot an e-mail to Peter Hurd from http://oboes.us. His contact information is right on his website. Most of my double-reed searches -- ever -- include him or lead back to him, so I'd say he'd have some really good information.

Not quite Pete, but close. According to H. Roberts, who had worked for W. Wetzel, oboes were already no longer manufactuered in 1979, but only repaired.

I'm trying to decipher what the umlauts are getting bastardized into. According to Dr. Weller, Wetzel numbered all his horns consecutively but with X. I can't figure out what the "Lücken" is supposed to be. :frown::frown::frown::frown::frown::frown: Colour me perturbed.

Yes, I could find that is a nice instrument but, like you, nothing about the posible price. Thanks!

Thanks Pete!

Yes... I am trying everything to price this thing correctly. I never thought that it would be that hard! And Im surprised that Im enjoying this...

Im going to ask Peter Hurd and try to translate with Google to post in the German forum.

Thanks again!!!

I 'll call you if I find something!

Well, hopefully you haven't found my phone number!

If you can post on the MM forum, I'd recommend also posting in English. I'm sure that some bi/multilingual folks post there or at least check the new posts. Hey, I don't speak or write German. I took Latin in high school and college.

I don't have price for your oboe - but I have a bassflute from Werner Wetzel. This is a top notch pro instrument. As far as I know, Wetzel moved his workshop to Munic at the "Musikhaus Hieber". But I think he specialised on low flutes there.
Some years ago, I played an oboe from Werner Wetzel, which I borrowed from someone. I'd seemed to be a very solid intermediate instrument and you could sell it like this: A good oboe from a not so well known oboe maker.
