Throughout the year our band performs birthday serenades/concertlets for our passive members with a "round" birthday (every five years for 65th and up), and for eons (and probably longer) we played that ubiquitous, one-and-only, quintessential Moeckel's "Birthday March" (after the familiar "Happy Birthday" tune, you guessed that already), and we're looking for something with less than two inches of dust on it. It's really been played to death.

So what would be a cheerful birthday tune to play in harmony?

Well, my grandmother-in-law is 86 ....
Would she know the song, if it were instrumental only?

She'd probably remember something a tad older than that ....
