Aging out of Music Performance

Striving to play the changes in a melodic way.

So now 70 years young, my wife has been encouraging me to get down to just one group to perform with. I was also the sound guy for two of the groups, schlepping all the massive sound gear to the venue. So I am saying goodbye to the Seattle Solid GOLD (think Tower of Power cover band) and also closing down my sax quartet group. Last night was our last gig of the night for the Seattle area consulate holiday party and it went kinda like this:

I have three sound systems (suitcase, combo, and big band) that I'll hafta find a way to find a new home for too. Have any of you experienced this? Have you any guidance for me as I downsize to just a 'have horn, will travel' performance style?

That was a really nice clip on the band's performance, @Gandalfe . Was the sax solo yours?

Can't advise on downsizing the sound systems let alone musical instruments. Some say I am a lightweight but in jest, I have accumulated and need to downsize too since I am a bit over your age. Have slowed some, was very active in my late 50's.

Spent time after the service today on a few Christian contemporary tunes in the Salvation Army's 2nd volume book, while others were having lunch in the Corps dining room. I enjoy doing keyboard solo intros and endings, put to modern Latino beats.

Re: sound systems. Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be much demand for this, especially if it is older. When I upgraded to a digital mixer I tried to sell my older stuff - 16 channel Mackie mixer and 12 rack spaces of effects, plus a 100 foot snake. Absolutely no takers, even at 10 cents on the dollar. I finally donated it to a newly built local school that had neglected to budget for a sound system. The piano player in one of my bands wife was the choral director there, and was very appreciative.

Ha, no. That was Gary Beyer. He played in the Air Force big band in Europe for 4 years. Some say he looks like he could be my brother.
