Helen mentions on her website, that FX Hüller's daughter's name was Susanna Riedl and FX Hüller was also in Graslitz. I wonder if the two Riedls are related.

I just took a look in the new book I just got yesterday from Uwe Ladwig, Saxofone: Ein Kompendium, and the name doesn't appear in their other than in relation to what I already mentioned. This leads me to think that this might likely be a stencil, or possibly such an obscure brand, that it didn't come up in Uwe's research.

However, given what names did come up in during his 10+ years of researching the material for the book, I suspect that it's more likely a stencil. Sadly, the 2 pics are so small, that I can't make out any details other than: yup, it's a silver plated alto with a Hammerschmidt-like neck brace, a microtuner, & rolled tone holes. :-x

Maybe Otto was a relative of Ernst Riedl, "who was a woodwind specialist. Ernst Riedl was born in 1896 and died in Winnenden in 1967. He was manufacturing woodwind instruments in Graslitz/Kraslice (Czech Republic) between 1924-1945. Mr. Riedl was an ex-bassoonist and had earlier worked for V. Kohlert's Sohne. In 1924 he was established independently. In 1925, Ernst Riedl was listed as a specialist for Boehm clarinet, flute and piccolo. In 1930 he had listed himself as a specialist for flute and bassoon however after 1945, when his firm was nationalized, his instruments were stamped 'Kohlert'." (according to this post quoting the Langwill index).
Then again, maybe it was simply a made-up name hinting at Ernst, or Kohlert, or ..., who knows.

On a related note, is there an entry someplace that lists the members of Migma, etc.? That'd be a really nice thing to know.

Um, I'll have to take a look. I remember noticing the name Migma, and remember you mentioning it. I can't remember in what context Uwe wrote about it though, or how often. I wasn't looking of it specifically. I'll get back to you. Remind me if I forget. (Good chance of that actually. I'm playing catch up right now.)
