I haven't seen such a system deployed yet, going from prototype into production. I didn't even know it existed. Did this system remain in prototyping only?

Selmer USA Padless horns were around for a few years. The pic above looks like it was adapted for use on a Balanced Action.

There have been a couple of different padless systems that went into production. Resoblade and Toptone are ones off the top of my head.
